In April 2025, LWV-NPC held a Democracy Dialogues session on Property Taxes, Bond Issues and Levies. At the session, we discussed how these funding mechanics work, and why they matter for supporting public infrastructure. LWV-NPC also moderated a discussion with panelists: Portage County Auditor Matt Kelly, Portage County Treasurer John Kennedy, Aurora City Finance Director Tim Clymer and Aurora City School Superintendent Mike Roberto.

Demystifying Election Security: A Conversation with the Board of Elections to go Inside the Ballot Box

Portage County, OH — Have you ever wondered how your vote is protected once you cast it? The League of Women Voters Northern Portage County (LWV NPC) is here to answer those questions and more.

Whether you've voted on Election Day, early in person, or have concerns about the security of paper ballots and voting machines, you're not alone. Many voters share concerns about the integrity of the voting process and the security measures in place to ensure every vote is accurately counted.

To address these concerns, LWV NPC is hosting a special event: Democracy Dialogues: Inside the Ballot Box. This event will feature a casual conversation with Theresa Nielsen, Deputy Director of the Portage County Board of Elections (BOE), who will provide insights into what happens before, during, and after Election Day.
