On February 19th, 2025, LWV-Northern Portage County moderated a panel discussion with Tony Badalamenti, former Portage County Commissioner, Lou Bertrand, former Mayor of Hiram, and Carmen Laudato, former City Council member in Streetsboro. Our discussion touched on topics ranging from day-to-day responsibilities, budget development and oversight, zoning and economic decision making, and ways for the public to engage with their elected leaders. As the 2024 Presidential Election approaches, the question of whether the Electoral College strengthens or weakens our democracy is more important than ever. What are democracy dialogues?At our second meeting of the month, now on the 3rd Wednesday, we have an opportunity to explore topics regarding voting, legislation, redistricting, and more. Often, we have a slide presentation that goes along with the discussion to help introduce the topic. We are publishing these presentations as a way to share our work.
